EUROPEAN SCHOOL SPORT DAY?

WHAT IS EUROPEAN SCHOOL SPORT DAY?

The European School Sport Day (ESSD) is a school day dedicated to have fun, to play together, to promote physical activity and health for everyone. It is a celebration which provides the opportunity for schools to:
  • Raise the profile of physical education (PE) and sport in schools
  • Create fun and enjoyment through physical activity for young people
  • Promote health and wellbeing for lifelong learning
  • Empower social inclusion and develop social competence amongst students.
ESSD is open for any kind of physical activity with the tradition of being active for at least 120 minutes throughout the day and to run or walk the distance of the given year (e.g. 2015 metres in 2015).
The European School Sport Day is inspired by the Hungarian School Sport Day; an event which is organized by the Hungarian School Sport Federation for the last 10 years. It has been a day dedicated to promote physical activity, to try out new ways of physical activities and sports, and of course to empower the “belonging to the school” experience for every participant.

Aim of the project: Connecting Europe through school sport within the frame of the project, and developing a methodological toolkit to provide scientific background for the school sport events, with the support of European Union.
Activities: Development process with the contribution of 6 partners from EU, as well as coordination of organizing school sport events in 3 countries: Hungary, Poland, and Bulgaria
Outcomes: Publishing the initial Action Plan and Toolkit online to provide ideas for anyone who would like to join European School Sport Day and coordination of school sport events. Based on the first pilot year, the Toolkit will be finalized to summarize the experiences and highlight the best practices.
